Sangli, Dec. 3 -- A major controversy erupted in Astha town of the district today after serious discrepancies were allegedly found in the official voting data for the Astha Municipal Council elections.
Large crowds gathered outside the Vilasrao Shinde Multipurpose Hall, where the EVMs are stored, as citizens and members of the Astha City Vikas Aghadi accused the administration of publishing incorrect and inflated numbers.
According to officials, Astha has a total of 30,574 registered voters, and 22,864 votes were cast in yesterday's polling. However, the voter list published on the official portal shows a sudden increase of nearly 2,000 additional voters, raising doubts among locals.
