Udupi, Aug. 21 -- A local court today rejected the bail plea of Mahesh Shetty Thimarody, who was arrested by Udupi police for allegedly making derogatory remarks against BJP leader BL Santosh in connection with the Dharmasthala issue, and remanded him to judicial custody till August 23.

The order was passed by Additional Civil Judge and JMFC NA Nagesh at Brahmavar. Following the court directive, Thimarody has been lodged in Hiriyadka Sub-Jail.

Soon after his arrest, Thimarody's counsel moved a bail application. However, the court turned it down citing the presence of non-bailable sections in the case. The matter has been posted for further hearing, when arguments from both sides will be considered.
