Mumbai, May 31 -- On the occasion 300 Birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar, the celebrated queen of the Maratha-ruled Malwa kingdom, the Dhangar community in Maharashtra on Saturday demanded renaming of Mumbai's iconic Churchgate railway station after her name.

Talking to media, Prakash Shendage, prominent leader of the Dhangar community, questioned the relevance of the current name, saying, "there is neither any church nor any gate here, so why retain the name Churchgate?"

He pointed out that a nearby intersection already bears Ahilyabai Holkar's name and argued that the station should also reflect her legacy.
