Bengaluru, Aug. 11 -- The Karnataka government has reinstated Dr K Ramachandra Rao, IPS, as Director General of Police, Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement, withdrawing the compulsory leave order issued earlier this year.

The move comes nearly five months after Rao, stepfather of Kannada actress Harshavardini Ranya (Ranya Rao), was sent on leave following her arrest in a multi-crore gold smuggling case.

A government notification stated that the DGP post in the Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement has been upgraded and declared equivalent in status to the cadre post of DGP, CID, Special Units & Economic Offences, Bengaluru. Rao will hold the position with immediate effect until further orders.
