New Delhi, Jan. 2 -- The Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, convened a meeting of the Inter-Departmental Committee to review proposals related to foreign banks seeking permission to operate in India. The meeting was chaired by the M Nagaraju, Secretary, Department of Financial Services.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs, Department of Commerce and the Reserve Bank of India participated in the discussions.

The committee examined proposals forwarded by the RBI concerning foreign banks looking to open branches, set up representative offices or establish subsidiaries in the country.
