Sarnath, May 1 -- Amid ongoing war and unrest across the world, thousands of devotees are visiting Sarnath, the city of religion and spirituality, to pay homage to the sacred relics of Lord Buddha, carrying a message of peace, on the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima.

The Mulagandha Kuti Vihar complex and temple, the site of Lord Buddha's preaching, have been lavishly decorated. The fluttering Panchsheel flags are a special attraction.

Vaisakh Purnima is associated with three important milestones in Lord Buddha's life: he was born on this day, attained enlightenment, and attained Mahaparinirvana.

In addition to paying homage to the sacred relics of Lord Buddha, Buddhist followers are also offering prayers at other temples in Sarnath....
