Shimla, Dec. 26 -- The illegal felling of valuable green deodar trees has been detected in a dense forest near Riyuni, around 5 km from the Chopal forest headquarters in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh.
Divisional Forest Officer Chopal, Jangvir Singh Dulta, said that eight green deodar trees were felled, and that the incident took place on Wednesday night. The culprits managed to escape under the cover of darkness when a police patrol team reached the area.
Dulta stated that after receiving information from the police, a Forest Department team rushed to the site and initiated a detailed investigation. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those involved.
