New Delhi, Oct. 15 -- With Delhi's air quality deteriorating just a week before Diwali, the city government is preparing to induce artificial rain in an attempt to clear the polluted air.

Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that if weather conditions become favorable within the next two to three days, the cloud seeding operation will be ready to launch within three hours, pending approval from the India Meteorological Department.

This initiative comes as the capital has already activated the first stage of its Graded Response Action Plan due to the Air Quality Index crossing the 200 mark.
