New Delhi, Nov. 16 -- As the mercury dipped in the national capital, toxic haze choked the city, keeping the air quality deep in the 'very poor' category for the third consecutive day.

On Sunday, the city's minimum temperature plunged to 9degC, the lowest recorded in the season so far, according to data from the India Meteorological Department(IMD). Northwesterly winds prevailed over Delhi during the past 24 hours, with wind speeds gusting up to 19 kmph, which brought with pollutants from the northwest region.

At 4 p.m. on Sunday, Delhi's 24-hour rolling average AQI inched down to 377 from 386 the previous day, yet remained in the 'very poor' category for the third consecutive day, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)....
