New Delhi, Feb. 23 -- In a significant move, the Delhi High Court has directed to pay pensionary benefits to five employees of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), who have been working as temporary workers for the past 20 years.

A division bench, comprising Justices C Hari Shankar and Ajay Digpaul, quashed an earlier High Court order denying pensions to the petitioners, workers who had served for over 20 years before retiring between 2010 and 2014.

The High Court ruled in favour of five retired temporary employees of the ASI, affirming their right to pensionary benefits and condemning the prolonged exploitation of contractual employment.
