New Delhi, Nov. 11 -- The police forces stepped up security vigil across the national capital and adjoining areas, following an explosion in a car near the Red Fort on Monday evening that claimed several lives.

The Delhi Police across all the city's districts are on high alert and patrolling has been intensified, especially in the sensitive areas. Special units of the police were also seen on ground maintaining vigil.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) also beefed up security at vital installations across the city including the Indira Gandhi International Airport, Red Fort, government buildings, offices and other key places, officials said.
