New Delhi, Dec. 29 -- Air quality in the national Capital worsened on Monday, with the air quality index (AQI) slipping into the 'severe' category.

At 4 pm, Delhi's 24-hour rolling average AQI stood at 405, largely unchanged from morning levels, according to the Central Pollution Control Board's (CPCB) daily national bulletin.

Experts attributed the relatively stable pollution levels to warmer daytime temperatures and stronger north-westerly winds that picked up in the afternoon, reaching speeds of up to 15 kmph. These conditions helped disperse ground-level pollutants, leading to a marginal improvement in air quality around noon, when the AQI eased to about 390, while hovering close to the hazardous levels.
