Paris, May 26 -- Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz began his 2025 French Open campaign with a dominant straight-sets victory over Italian qualifier Giulio Zeppieri, winning 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 on Court Suzanne Lenglen.

The 21-year-old Spaniard showcased his trademark blend of power and finesse, securing four service breaks and winning 78 per cent of his first-serve points. Alcaraz maintained control throughout the match, never facing a break point and sealing the win in just under two hours.

Zeppieri, ranked No. 306, entered the main draw as a lucky loser following Kei Nishikori's withdrawal. Despite a spirited effort, he struggled to match Alcaraz's intensity and precision.
