Bengaluru, Sept. 3 -- The Karnataka High Court today orally observed that existing defamation laws are insufficient to tackle the "YouTube menace" and suggested that the criminal defamation case filed by Minister KJ George against Kannada Prabha Editor-in-Chief Ravi Hegde could be resolved if a disclaimer is published.

Justice MI Arun, hearing Hegde's plea to quash the proceedings, said a disclaimer clarifying that the report was based on statements of others and not endorsed by the editor, along with an expression of regret if it hurt anyone, could pave the way for closure of the case.
