Amaravati, Oct. 26 -- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) today issued a cyclone alert (Orange Message) for Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, as a deep depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal showed signs of intensifying further.

According to a special bulletin issued at 4 p.m., the system moved northwestwards at a speed of 5 kmph during the past six hours and was centred at 11.3degN latitude and 87.0degE longitude, about 620 km west of Port Blair, 770 km east-southeast of Chennai, 820 km south-southeast of Visakhapatnam, and 810 km southeast of Kakinada.

The IMD said the system is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm within the next 12 hours and further strengthen into a severe cyclonic storm by the morning of October 28. It is ex...
