New Delhi, Nov. 16 -- Head Coach of India's Deaflympics Judo team Surendra Singh has stressed the need for setting up a dedicated centre of excellence for Deaf sportspersons.

In an exclusive interview with UNI, Singh said such a centre, on the lines of the one being developed for para athletes (Para Athlete High-Performance Centre in Gandhinagar), would go a long way in honing the skills of deaf sportspersons.

"Deaf sports are very competitive and high-quality deaf athletes also represent the country at the Olympics, like Diksha represented India at the Tokyo games. What we need is a dedicated centre for deaf sports, like the one being developed for Para sports in Gujarat," he explained.
