Mumbai, July 9 -- Days after the issue of the relocation of the Urdu Sahitya Acedmy was raised in the Mahrshtra assembly the Maharashtra government has decided to put the move on hold.
The decision was announced following a high-level meeting chaired by Minority Affairs Minister Dattatray Bharne in response to a calling attention motion moved by MLA Rais Shaikh in the state assembly.
The move comes after sustained efforts by Shaikh, who had raised the issue through letters and the legislative route. His intervention is being seen as a significant win for the Urdu-speaking community.
