Hyderabad, Sept. 20 -- The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) Telangana on Friday clarified that Vagdevi Laboratories, Cherlapally, which was mentioned in a press release by Maharashtra Police regarding the seizure of Mephedrone, is a chemical factory and not a pharmaceutical company or drug licence holder.
In a statement, the DCA said that Mephedrone is not a medicine and does not come under its regulatory purview. The substance is covered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and enforcement is the responsibility of authorities empowered under the Act, including the Police, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), and other state and central enforcement agencies.
