Kolkata, Oct. 6 -- After a night of torrential rains that unleashed widespread devastation across Darjeeling, the situation has started to ease today with the skies clearing up and no fresh heavy rainfall reported. Locals said that with the weather improving, even Kanchenjunga was visible from the town in the morning.
However, the official death toll has climbed to 20, and authorities fear that the number could rise further as rescue operations continue in several inaccessible areas. Sources claimed that among the victims, at least five were residents of Nepal.
