Amaravati, Nov. 30 -- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rainfall alert for coastal and Rayalaseema districts as Cyclonic Storm Ditwah continues to move northwards over the southwest Bay of Bengal, close to the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry shoreline.

The system, located at 0830 hours on Sunday near latitude 11.4degN and longitude 80.6degE, was around 100 km off Cuddalore and Karaikal, 110 km from Puducherry and nearly 180 km from Chennai.

Officials said the storm is likely to track parallel to the coast over the next 24 hours and may move to within 30-60 km of the coastline by evening.

The IMD has warned of extremely heavy rainfall on November 30 in Prakasam and Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore districts, while Bapatla, YSR Kadap...
