Shimla, Feb. 20 -- The rapid expansion of digital services has transformed daily life across India, but it has also opened new doors for criminals.

In Himachal Pradesh, cyber fraud has emerged as a serious concern, with 18,706 complaints registered in 2025 alone and reported losses exceeding Rs 132 crore.

According to Narvir Singh Rathour, Addl. SP, State Vigilance & Anti-Corruption Bureau, Shimla traditional crimes such as purse snatching and cash theft continue, their numbers are far lower compared to cyber offences.

"Earlier, a thief had to physically reach the victim. Today, fraudsters could wipe out hard-earned savings within seconds through a mobile phone," the officer said.
