Mumbai, Nov. 20 -- A customs officer posted at Mumbai airport has been arrested by his own department for allegedly smuggling scotch whisky meant for international flights. Sagar Om Prakash Meena was taken into custody in Navi Mumbai with foreign liquor worth Rs 19.50 lakh along with the vehicle used in the illegal operation.
A customs officer said on Thursday that the department received specific information about the illegal sale of scotch reserved for international flights by unauthorized vendors in Navi Mumbai.
Investigations revealed that the liquor was being diverted from Mumbai airport itself, prompting customs staff to maintain secret surveillance around the airport for several days.
