Srinagar, Sept. 27 -- Leh saw its first relaxation of curfew today, three days after violent protests over demands for statehood and Sixth Schedule safeguards claimed four lives and left over 100 injured.

Officials said the situation remained peaceful during the relaxation period.

Earlier in the day Director General of Police Ladakh, S.D. Singh Jamwal, said that the curfew in Leh will be relaxed in a phased manner.

"We are most concerned about the curfew. Our main aim is to bring peace to the region, and we understand the problems of the people," Jamwal said.
