New Delhi, April 12 -- Former Union Tourism Secretary M.P.Bezbaruah has asked the central government to create a "Support Cell" and a "Helpline number" to assist North East people in distress located in different parts of the country.

Following the spurt of racial attacks and discriminations on Northeasterners in different metropolitan cities, Bezbaruah dashed of two separate letters to Secretary for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Dr. Inder Jit Singh and Secretary North Eastern Council (NEC), Moses Challai seeking their intervention.
