Itanagar, June 14 -- The Chakma Rights and Development Organisation (CRDO) has expressed deep concern over what it terms an "escalating misinformation campaign and targeted protests" against Chakma and Hajong communities in Arunachal Pradesh following a recent directive from the Home Ministry to identify and deport illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar within 30 days.
In a statement, the CRDO welcomed the Union government's initiative to act against illegal immigration, but strongly opposed the misuse of the directive to harass or marginalize lawfully settled Chakma and Hajong citizens, many of whom have been living in the state for over six decades.
