Chamba, July 5 -- In a massive crackdown on illegal mining activities, the Chamba district administration has registered 1,044 cases between April 2024 and June 2025, revealing the alarming scale of the issue.

Chairing a review meeting at Paridhi Grih, Dalhousie, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Amit Mehra directed officials to intensify surveillance and take strict action against violators.

"Regular departmental monitoring and joint inspections must be ensured to curb the menace of illegal mining," he asserted.

Mehra disclosed that out of the total cases, 773 were compounded, resulting in the recovery of approximately Rs 27 lakh. Moreover, 242 cases have been forwarded to the court for further action.
