Shimla, Dec. 6 -- Communist Party of India (Marxist) has strongly objected to the state government's move to amend Section 118 of the Himachal Pradesh Tenancy and Land Reforms Act, 1972, warning that repeated relaxations and exemptions are effectively leading to a "freezing" of this key constitutional safeguard meant to protect the land rights of Himachalis.

The objections came even as the state government, on December 3, introduced the Himachal Pradesh Tenancy and Land Reforms (Amendment) Bill, 2025, in the Legislative Assembly during the winter session in Tapovan, Dharamshala. The bill has now been referred to a select Committee for wider consultation.
