Shimla/Mandi, Oct. 24 -- The Mandi District Committee of the CPI(M) has demanded the Centre declare the rain and landslide tragedy in Himachal Pradesh a national disaster and sanction a special package of Rs 5,000 crore to the state.
In a meeting held under the chairmanship of state secretariat member Dr Omkar Shad, the party expressed deep concern over the widespread destruction caused by the recent monsoon across Himachal Pradesh.
The party alleged that while the state government had announced a relief package, most of the affected people were still awaiting compensation, and only a few have received immediate assistance.
