Kozikhode, Dec. 26 -- CPIM's O Sadashivan was elected as the new Mayor of Kozhikode Municipal Corporation in Kerala on Friday.

The CPI-M-led LDF, which has 35 seats in the civic body, got 33 votes. Two votes were invalid. The Congress-headed UDF secured 27 votes.

In the first phase of voting, no one got an absolute majority, with O Sadashivan bagging 35 votes, UDF's SK Abubakar securing 27 votes, and NDA's Nambiti Narayanan picking up 13 votes.

However, in the second phase, two votes from the LDF were invalidated. UDF managed to get the vote of all its members.

Out of the six corporations in the state, the LDF has managed to win only Kozhikode in the recent civic polls.
