Hyderabad, Sept. 14 -- The Communist Party of India (CPI) has appealed to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to officially recognise September 17 as Telangana Liberation Day, instead of observing it as People's Administration Day.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, party legislator Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao recalled that although India attained independence on August 15, 1947, Hyderabad State-comprising a major part of present-day Telangana-remained under the Nizam's rule until September 17, 1948.
