Hyderabad, Jan. 4 -- The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Sunday strongly condemned what it described as the abduction and illegal detention of an elected Venezuelan leader by the United States during the tenure of former US President Donald Trump, calling it a blatant assault on democracy, sovereignty and international law.
In a press statement, CPI leader Narayana alleged that the action had no connection with drugs or crime, but was driven by imperialist motives to control Venezuela's oil and mineral resources. He said history had repeatedly shown that nations rich in strategic natural wealth often become targets of coercion, regime-change operations and political intimidation.
