Hyderabad, Nov. 27 -- The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Thursday strongly criticised the Delhi Police for filing UAPA cases against students, terming it an assault on democratic rights and freedom of expression.
In a statement issued in Hyderabad, CPI Central Executive Committee member Dr K. Narayana said the move was "deeply unfortunate and highly condemnable," and warned that coercive action cannot suppress voices of support or solidarity with student movements.
"This is an attack on democracy, on free speech, and on student activism," Narayana said, demanding that all cases registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act be withdrawn immediately.
