New Delhi, Feb. 8 -- The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Sunday strongly criticised the emerging Indo-US trade deal, accusing the BJP-led union government of making "sweeping concessions" that it said would harm India's economy, agriculture and national sovereignty.
In a statement issued by its Polit Bureau, the CPI(M) alleged that the so-called interim trade agreement includes commitments by India to allow zero tariffs on a range of US agricultural imports, including fruits, cotton, tree nuts, soybean oil and other food products. The party warned that such measures would severely impact the livelihoods of farmers across several states.
