Mumbai, March 7 -- A sessions court here issued a non-bailable warrant against filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma on his failure to remain present in the court while the court was hearing an appeal filed by him challenging the lower court order, which had awarded three months of imprisonment to him in a cheque bouncing case, a lawyer said on Friday.

The session court, while issuing a warrant, also rejected his plea seeking suspension of punishment awarded to him by the Judicial Magistrate (First Class) in Andheri, YP Pujari, on January 21, for cheque bouncing under the provisions of the Negotiable Instruments Act.

He was sentenced to three months in jail and was also directed to pay Rs 3,72,219 to the complainant within three months.
