Srinagar, Oct. 2 -- A local court in Leh granted interim bail to 26, including two migrant labourers from Bihar, who were arrested in connection with the recent violent unrest in the region.
Nearly 50 people were arrested by police following protests in Leh over demands for greater autonomy and statehood, during which clashes erupted that left four people dead and over 100 injured.
The clashes erupted on day 15 of a hunger strike led by climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has been booked under the National Security Act and sent to Jodhpur jail in Rajasthan.
The bail was granted by the court yesterday.
The president of the Bar Association, Leh, Mohammad Shafi Lassu, said the court granted interim bail to 26 detainees.
