Bhopal, Dec. 24 -- A husband and wife poured some inflammable liquid on their bodies and set themselves ablaze, suffering serious burn injuries, in protest against the administration's anti-encroachment drive to demolish their under-construction house in the Dewas district of Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday.
According to the police, the incident occurred in Satwas under the Khategaon tehsil. The couple, Santosh Vyas and Jaishree Vyas, run a stationery and photocopy shop at the Satwas bus stand.
They were constructing a house in a colony in the area. However, a complaint had been lodged against them alleging that part of the house was being built on encroached land.
