Chennai, July 13 -- Counting of votes polled in the July 10 high stakes bye-election
to the Vikravandi Assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu, which witnessed a three-cornered
contest, began on Saturday.
As per early trends, the ruling DMK has established an early lead and was ahead by nearly
8,000 votes.
As the counting began at 0830 hrs, District Election Officer and Villupuram District Collector
C.Palani inspected the arrangements put in place in the counting centre at the Government
Higher Secondary School at Panayapuram near Villupuram.
Counting of votes began at 8.30 am. First postal ballots were taken up for counting after which
votes polled in the EVMs were taken up.
