Mumbai, Jan. 3 -- Senior IPS officer Sadanand Date, widely known for his bravery during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, today assumed charge as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Maharashtra, succeeding Rashmi Shukla following her retirement.
A 1990-batch Indian Police Service officer, Date took charge at the state police headquarters after his appointment was approved on December 31, granting him a two-year tenure at the helm of the state's over two-lakh-strong police force. He was prematurely repatriated from central deputation, where he was serving as Director General of the National Investigation Agency, at the request of the Maharashtra government.
