Cough syrup deaths: Himachal halts Nexa DS production, probe launched with CDSCO

Shimla, Oct. 4 -- The Himachal Pradesh Drug Department has halted the production of Nexa DS cough syrup, manufactured by Aquanova Pharma, following reports from the Madhya Pradesh government linking certain cough syrups to children's deaths.

According to official sources, Madhya Pradesh wrote to both the Himachal government and the state Drug Controller, requesting an investigation into two syrups Coldrif and Nexa DS. While Coldrif is not produced in Himachal, Nexa DS is manufactured by Aquanova Pharma.

The Himachal Drug Department has suspended its production as a precautionary measure pending laboratory results.
