Shillong, Feb. 19 -- Former Meghalaya Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) legislator Dr. Mukul Sangma on Monday hit out the government in the Assembly for the reported "large scale corruption" in the state and said corruption is "more crippling and more deadly than terrorism."



Participating in the debate on the Governor's Address, the veteran legislator said such corruption cannot happen without being patronized by the people in power. He warned that the future of the state is being jeopardised.



Dr. Sangma dared the government to institute an independent inquiry into the alleged illegal mining and transportation of coal and said such irregularities "cannot happen without the complicities of people in power."
