Tehran, Feb. 24 -- Iranian Deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi on Monday confirmed a total of 61 cases that have been registered so far in the country.

"The approximate number of people who have tested positive is between 59 to 61," Harirchi said. However, Asadollah Abbasi, a spokesman for Iran's Parliament Presiding Board, said that the number of coronavirus cases in the country stood at 47. Twelve people have succumbed to the virus so far in Iran.

President Hassan Rouhani also gave fresh directives for handling issues concerning coronavirus by speeding up the procedure to stem the communicable disease.
