Chennai, Aug. 6 -- A Special Sub-Inspector (SSI) on duty was was hacked to death
when he tried to intervene in a dispute between a father and his son at Gudimangalam
village in Tiruppur district of Tamil Nadu last night.
The SSI was identified as Shanmugavel (57).
Police sources said, one Murthy and his two sons, who were working and residing at
a farm, were involved in an altercation under the influence of alcohol.
During the dispute, one of the sons, Thangapandian, allegedly assaulted his father.
Hearing the commotion, neighbours alerted the police following which SSI Shanmugavel
and constable Azhagu Raja, 35, attached to the Gudimangalam police station, who were
on patrol duty, rushed to the spot.
