Theni (Tamil Nadu), March 29 -- A Ganja peddler, who was an accused
in the murder of a police constable after a drunken brawl at Muthaiyanpatti
near Usilampatti in Madurai district on Thursday, was shot at and injured
by the police, when he allegedly attempted to attack cops and escape in
a forest area at Cumbum in this district of Tamil Nadu on Saturday evening.
Sources in the Police headquarters in Chennai when contacted by UNI
said the accused was injured and has been shifted to Government Rajaji
Hospital in Madurai from Theni for advanced treatment.
They also denied reports that the accused had died in the encounter.
