Kolhapur, July 3 -- A cooperative institute from Warna of Panhala tehsil of the district became first in the state to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra government to set up a pumped storage hydropower project at Tilari irrigation dam in Sindhudurg district.

The Shri Tatyasaheb Kore Warna Cooperative Navshakti Nirman Sanstha and the state government signed the MoU, in which cooperative institution will invest Rs 1,008 crore to develop the 240 mw project.

The pumped storage hydropower project operates by utilising water from the upper reservoir, releasing it into lower reservoir to drive pressure turbines that generate electricity.
