Mumbai, April 2 -- The State government's 'Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin' scheme is heading toward a major controversy. While the initiative was launched with a 'fill the form and get the benefit' approach to reach as many women as possible, the recent data verification and e-KYC process have revealed significant lapses.

Recent findings suggest that nearly 71 lakh women have been found ineligible for the scheme. Despite this, the state government has already deposited approximately 21,300 crore into their accounts over the last 20 months. By filtering out these ineligible candidates, the government expects to save roughly 1,065 crore every month moving forward.
