Kochi, April 16 -- Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala on Thursday termed the ongoing debates over the Chief Minister's post as "unnecessary," urging party leaders and workers to refrain from engaging in avoidable controversies ahead of the counting of votes.

Talking to media persons here, Chennithala said social media had played a significant role in the election campaign, with support pouring in even from overseas.

"It is a good thing and I appreciate such efforts," he said, adding that the same platforms should not be used to fuel unwarranted speculation.
