Puducherry, April 3 -- As many as 54 contract workers of the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College here were terminated as they failed to turn up for duty on Thursday.



It may be noted that more than 200 contract workers are there in the government medical college which was converted into an exclusive COVID-19 Hospital with 700 beds.

The hospital administration had issued an order that the contract workers should stay in the hospital and attend duty.



The workers protested this and also alleged that there is no job security to them and demanded that all protection materials be provided to them to safeguard themselves from the Coronavirus.

Putting forth this demand, they resorted to an agitation two days back.
