Shillong, Dec. 8 -- Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Thomas Ampang Sangma on Monday said the construction of the new Assembly building is expected to be completed by June 2026.

The new assembly building is being built at Mawdiangdiang after the 125-year-old heritage and iconic Gothic structure was destroyed in a devastating fire in January 2001.

"I am happy to share that the meeting was very productive. With these regular review meetings, we can monitor progress closely and identify what needs to be done as the construction moves forward," Sangma said after chairing a comprehensive review meeting on the ongoing construction of the new Meghalaya assembly building.
