Guwahati, Feb. 3 -- Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that Congress will get the votes of only the Miya community in the forthcoming elections, and that the Assamese Muslims are unlikely to vote for the Congress this time.
Speaking to newspersons, the CM said: "The people of Assam are with the BJP. The Congress has invited the Miyas to Assam. The BJP is working in the path shown by the 855 martyrs of the Assam Movement. If they call me communal, Lachit Borphukan will also be communal," he said, adding that he has been trying to chase the Mughals like Lachit Borphukan, in reference to the 17th century general of the Ahom kingdom who is celebrated for defeating the massive Mughal forces in the Battle of Saraighat.
