Thiruvananthapuram, June 6 -- Congress stalwart Thennala Balakrishna Pillai who was undergoing treatment for age related ailments died at a private hospital here on Friday.

He was 95. He was elected twice (1977 -1980 and 1982-1987) to the Kerala Legislative Assembly from the Adoor constituency. He was also nominated to the Rajya Sabha three times.

He also served as President of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (1998-2001 and 2004-2005). He was born at Sooranad, Kollam, on 11 March 1930, to N. Gopala Pillai and N. Eswari Amma.

He got married on July 3, 1963 to Sathi Devi and they had one daughter. He held a degree in B.Sc from Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram.
